I feel creatively starved, I am full time art student but I am spending the most part of my time writing essays and bullshit briefs rather then creating. I know that research and writing can better myself as an artist in knowing where my own art sits within art history but at this current time we are the middle children in the art world, no one gives a fuck. I am in 4th year now I have written essay after essay, I am over it, I just want to spend my time creating things and using my hands to make physical things but the most use my hands get are the constant tapping of the same grouping of keys on my keyboard. I am unhappy with this balance of sitting on my arse writing lackluster paper after another not feeling fulfilled in any artistic matter, my artistic skills are withering and dying and all I can do is get the next fucking essay in a on time. This is not me writing uni off, I am gladly going to try and study further more next year but the constant bombardment of essays that I feel have no connection with what I want to do is just making my time feel worthless. I feel as though I am wasting my time and a part of me if i can’t get these art works out of my mind and onto paper, wood, material, cardboard or a damn wall I want to cover everything in my work.

So my rants have been kept to a minimal because I don’t think you guys like to hear my first world problems and honestly I don’t like it it either. The past few months have been a whirlwind in my life finishing the most part of my first degree and starting to establish myself as an artist. I have been keeping my head above the ever rising water that is real world debts that don’t stop by doing freelance work and odd photo based jobs. There is one thing that has just had its tip pressing on my ever so innocent working life butt and its people who fuck me over, yes I do freelance and expect it but the presence of work is amazing and I am willing. Just to be asked to “whip something up” is yes Ok but you as a “client” should show some commitment to said designer/artist/photographer and stick with them through the job and not just out source it to some other chump for a lesser sum of money whilst using my work as a reference. Seriously people cry for the plight of the musician and film maker but what about the visual artists? I feel as though people don’t see this as a problem because the things we do create don’t move or make sound, heck there is hundreds of artists starving from all kinds but you don’t see painters with “You wouldn’t download this image” under their pieces. Just remember this as I am sneaking into your gigs and illegally downloading you newest album.
